Mevagissey Feast Week
The RNAS Culdrose
SAR helicopter giving a demonstration rescue, watched by HM Customs cutter Vigilant. The crowd on
both jetties have a wonderful view of the rescue and the spectacular boat
handling.
Mevagissey being a working fishing harbour, the fishing boats have got to have a race round the bay. The handicapper never gets it right and the protests are debated in the pubs of Meva through most of the night.

There is also a raft race, fancy costume obligatory, and there is a huge
flour and water fight before the start, where all competitors try to sink
their rivals. Usual story with the protests in the pubs afterwards.

The schoolchildren of Meva make a fish display, this one is called Pete (a local in-joke) and parade it round the village to the accompaniment of silver and samba bands etc. The carnival is on the Saturday afternoon and has a huge following. That night there is a spectacular fireworks show on the lighthouse quay.
