Mevagissey, Cornwall |

The RNAS Culdrose ASR helicopter giving a demonstration rescue, assisted by the Fowey lifeboats, and watched by HM Customs cutter Vigilant. The crowd on both jetties have a wonderful view of the rescue and the spectacular boat handling. |

Mevagissey being a working fishing harbour, the fishing boats have got to have a race round the bay. The handicapper never gets it right and the protests are debated in the pubs of Meva through most of the night. |

There is also a raft race, fancy costume obligatory, and there is a huge flour and water fight before the start, where all competitors try to sink their rivals. Usual story with the protests in the pubs afterwards. |

The schoolchildren of Meva make a fish model, this one is called Pete (a local in-joke) and parade it round the village to the accompaniment of bands etc. The carnival is on the Saturday afternoon and has a huge following. That night there is a spectacular firework show on the lighthouse quay. |
WARNING! Mevagissey partying is not for the fainthearted ! |
